2020 Pescadora Billfish Championship Results

In·spire: to influence, move, guide, find impressive

The definition of inspire is one of the best ways we could describe the anglers, marketing partners, and spectators that participated in the 2020 Billfish Championship, crowning the World’s Top Female Anglers. 34 teams released 341 billfish in this two-day competition proving that women represent the largest emerging market in the fishing industry.  Over 400 people representing 8 different countries descended on Marina Pez Vela, in Quepos, Costa Rica to celebrate the accomplishments of these female anglers.

With a combined 19 billfish released, the Female Angler’s of the Year, Camilla Ingram (IFGA Release Division) and Lori Bagliore (Hook & Hand Division) took home the top honors in this year’s women’s world championship of fishing. Both received an important tool for any angler, a pair of Costa’s provided by our presenting sponsor Costa Sunglasses, along with the coveted pink sailfish trophy provided by Gray Taxidermy, an Accurate reel and fighting belts from C&H Lures.

In team competition, Team Big Oh came on strong with an early lead and continued to dominate, taking home an impressive 1st place finish. The battle for 2nd and 3rd was close for both days, but in the end the ladies on Vaquero managed to pull ahead for 2nd place, followed closely by the ladies on the Grand Slam with their 3rd place finish.

After finishing just mere points off the podium for the last two years in the Offshore World Championship, Tournament Director Samantha Mumford, surprised the fleet with a 4th place award.  With a last-second Blue Marlin on day two, Team Outage took the 4th place honor.

Team Stress Reeliever 1 won the Tuna Division with an impressive 184.4 points! Good Day and Grand Slam battled it out for the Dorado Division, with one pound giving the win to the Grand Slam with 28.6 points. Good Day’s team had some very exciting “firsts” this year…. Brandi Froelich caught her first marlin, Grethel Fernandez, Sofia Solis and Shauna Froelich caught their first tuna, and boat owner Cathy Gilmour caught her first dorado!!  Alex Voges fishing for the first time offshore, on Mi Novia, caught not only her first fish, but also the first marlin of the tournament at 8:39am.

Gray Fish-Tag Research, continued to show their support for the Pescadora Billfish Championship and female anglers worldwide, by awarding the top tagging teams and top tagging angler with a full-size sailfish mount provided by Gray Taxidermy. The ladies fought hard for these prizes tagging an impressive number of fish.  Congratulations to Team Pesacadora and Team Shoe who tied for Top Tagging Team with 20 tags and to the Top Tagging Angler, Britney McCrae, on the Kelly Dawn.

Thank you to everyone for a successful 2020 Pescadora Billfish Championship!  Don’t forget, you only live once… so you might as well be a badass!  See you next year!
